STORY TIME
Hi there!
My name is Michelle, and I am the flower farmer behind Miles Lane Blooms.
I first heard about U.S. based flower farming several years ago and it got me thinking “where do all the flowers I purchase come from, anyway?”
That single thought sent me spiraling down a path filled with books, YouTube videos, articles, anything I could get my hands on to learn about where flowers in this country come from. Spoiler alert: they’re imported (mostly) and covered in chemicals to keep ‘em “looking fresh”. Not ideal, but I was encouraged by the growing trend in U.S. based flower farmers.
It was a romantic thought: being a flower farmer, scooping up bundles of fresh flowers and throwing them up in the air. It was a dream I quickly dismissed, thinking it would never happen for me.
Flash forward to Christmas Eve 2020. I unexpectedly found myself living the script of one of those Hallmark holiday movies (not kidding). Here’s how it went:
Single female moves back home to the country after living in the big city. She’s trying to sort her life out...maybe buy some property so she could grow flowers and vegetables. Her sister and brother-in-law take her out to a local bar on Christmas Eve, and there, she meets a special someone. A local. He’s a farmer. The End.
In all seriousness, Miles Lane Blooms and my dream of scooping up bundles of fresh flowers wouldn’t be possible without this local farmer. His farming guidance, tractor, and belief in my ideas are the reasons why my dream became a reality, and I am so very grateful for that.
Recently, I’ve been having dreams about chickens, ducks and a mini donkey but so far, local farmer won’t budge. I’ll keep you posted on that. Update: still don’t have any farm critters.
Farming is a constant learning experience, but I am so excited to keep growing and spreading some joy around through locally grown, fresh flowers! Thanks for stopping by and reading my story.
